Morocco Destination Wedding in Rabat
Bree and Badr’s traditional Moroccan wedding in Rabat
I landed in Rabat and instantly had this sinking realisation that I had done no research into local customs, quirks or etiquette and felt a bit vulnerable! I think I’m a bit blasé about travel now and I should definitely have researched Morocco more because by the time I got to my hotel I’d been kind of tricked into giving out two pretty hefty ‘tips’ because I only had a pocket full of notes worth about £20 each – one for helping me to a taxi, and one for helping me to my hotel (I didn’t learn from the first one). Both friendly fellas, for sure, but they enjoyed my naivety! I sent a message to Bree and Badr asking for advice before I went bankrupt!
So here I was, in Rabat – Badr’s home. Bree is from the USA, and she had met Badr and fallen in love at first sound when he said her name for the first time! Theirs is a proper 21st century love story and their wedding celebrations were such a humongous pleasure to capture in this crazy city. Their wedding was a new experience for me in so many ways. Working with Richard and Abdo from Paragon Expressions on video duty was great because not only did Richard drive us around, but he helped me know what was coming. Well actually he prepped me with two words only: “Expect Chaos”!
Luckily chaos is my favourite, especially combined with the love and happiness that Bree, Badr and all their internationally assembled guests enjoyed this day.
These sort of intimate experiences of new cultures has been my favourite thing about this life as a wedding photographer. Going to Morocco was amazing, but getting to experience a true Moroccan wedding was something special. The music, the dancing, the noise, the excitement, the outfit changes. It was chaos, Richard was right, but the best kind of chaos. The kind of chaos it’s impossible not to love and crave more of!
Thanks so much Bree and Badr for trusting in me and bringing me out to Rabat for your destination wedding.
